This week many Americans will gather with friends and/or family to celebrate Thanksgiving and give thanks. OGIS is no different as we all plan to share time with our loved ones. With that in mind, we also want to say “thank you” to our stakeholders who work with us to help improve the FOIA process.
Thank you to the 120 federal agencies and FOIA professionals who work with us to address and resolve a myriad of FOIA issues – from perfecting FOIA requests to tackling backlogs to providing training for their FOIA staffs – we appreciate the work done by every FOIA office across the executive branch.
Thank you to our requesters who ask us for assistance and are diligent in keeping us abreast of challenges they may encounter as they navigate the FOIA process.
Thank you to the FOIA Advisory Committee and the Chief FOIA Officers Council whose forward-thinking approaches to FOIA help us ensure that we are committed to improving the FOIA process and working toward a more efficient and effective approach to FOIA.
Thank you to the organizations and groups who serve as “watchdogs” focused on government transparency as they work to have the best interests of the American people at heart.
And last, thank you to our own agency, the National Archives, and the Archivist of the United States, who supports our office’s work every day as we strive to make FOIA better. We wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!
